DIN Reactivation

Reactivate a deactivated Director Identification Number by completing the pending KYC and fees.

What's covered

  • A Director Identification Number is deactivated when the annual DIR-3 KYC required under Rule 12A of the Companies (Appointment and Qualification of Directors) Rules 2014 is not filed by its 30 September due date. The MCA portal then shows the DIN status as 'Deactivated due to non-filing of DIR-3 KYC', and the director can no longer sign or certify any filing with the Registrar.
  • Reactivation is achieved by filing the pending DIR-3 KYC — through the eForm where details have changed or it is a first-time filing, or through the Web service where the details are unchanged. The filing is processed under the Straight Through Process, so the DIN is reactivated automatically once the form is approved, without a separate reactivation application.
  • The pending KYC carries a reactivation fee, commonly stated as ₹5,000, which is payable on the deactivated DIN; the MCA has applied reduced or waived fees during certain extension windows, so the exact amount for the current cycle should be confirmed before filing. Until the DIN is reactivated, any company the director serves cannot complete filings that need that director's signature.
  • We confirm why the DIN was deactivated, assemble the KYC documents and digital signature, pay the applicable fee, and file the pending DIR-3 KYC so the DIN reactivates on approval and the director can resume signing MCA filings.

How we work

  1. 01

    Confirm the deactivation reason

Check the DIN status on the MCA portal to confirm that it is deactivated for non-filing of DIR-3 KYC, and identify the financial year for which the KYC is pending, so the correct route and fee can be applied.

  2. 02

Prepare KYC documents and digital signature

Assemble the director's identity and address proofs and a passport-size photograph, and ensure the Digital Signature Certificate is registered against the DIN. Verify the mobile number and email by OTP as part of the KYC.

  3. 03

File the pending DIR-3 KYC with the fee

File the pending DIR-3 KYC eForm or Web service with the applicable reactivation fee. Because it is a Straight Through Process filing, the DIN is reactivated automatically once the form is approved, with no separate reactivation step required.

Documents required

  • Class-2 or Class-3 Digital Signature Certificate of the director, registered against the DIN
  • Self-attested copy of the director's PAN
  • Permanent and present address proof of the director
  • Recent passport-size photograph of the director
  • Passport, where the director holds one (mandatory for foreign nationals)
  • Active mobile number and email of the director for OTP verification

Applicable laws & forms

  • Companies (Appointment and Qualification of Directors) Rules 2014 — Rule 12A, under which non-filing of DIR-3 KYC deactivates the DIN and filing the pending KYC reactivates it
  • Companies Act 2013 — Section 152 (appointment of directors and the requirement of a DIN) and Section 164 (disqualifications attaching to directors)
  • MCA circulars notifying the reactivation fee and any extension-window reductions, which should be checked for the current cycle before filing
